SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN)— A large law enforcement response remains underway in downtown Sacramento early Saturday morning after a reported stabbing led to a barricaded suspect inside the Capitol Park Hotel.
Just after 12:30 a.m., officers with the Sacramento Police Department and firefighters with the Sacramento Fire Department responded to the hotel in the 1100 block of 9th Street for reports of a possible stabbing.
When officers arrived, they located a woman believed to be in her 50s suffering from what were described as superficial stab wounds outside the hotel. She was transported to an area hospital with what were initially reported as minor injuries.
According to police radio reports, the suspected assailant remained inside a sixth-floor hotel room. When officers attempted to contact him and requested that he exit, the man allegedly refused and began barricading the room door.
As the incident escalated, the Sacramento Police Department requested hostage negotiators, drone operators, and specialized tactical resources to respond to the scene.
9th Street remains closed between Kayak Alley and L Street while officers continue working to resolve the incident.
Personnel from the Sacramento Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, and Oak Grove Police Department are assisting as the suspect remains barricaded on the sixth floor.
No additional injuries have been reported.
