RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (PSN) — A tractor-trailer fire sent smoke into an Amazon warehouse Monday morning, prompting employees to evacuate and firefighters to spend several hours ventilating the building, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
No injuries were reported, and employees were later cleared to return to work.
Metro Fire crews were dispatched about 5:50 a.m. Nov. 2 to a reported trash compactor fire. Arriving firefighters found a tractor-trailer burning while connected to the approximately 630,000-square-foot warehouse, the district said.
Cardboard materials were involved in the fire, allowing smoke to enter the building and create a light haze throughout the interior.
Crews disconnected and removed the trailer from the building, allowing firefighters to extinguish the fire and prevent further fire spread into the warehouse, according to Metro Fire.
All employees evacuated safely. Firefighters remained at the facility for several hours to remove smoke and ensure the building was safe for reentry.
After fire suppression and ventilation were completed, the facility was returned to Amazon management and employees were cleared to resume work, the district said.
