NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (PSN) — A North Highlands man was arrested early Thursday morning after deputies say he barricaded himself inside a hotel room with his juvenile daughter following an alleged assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at about midnight Thursday to the Sacramento Inn & Suites, located at 4325 Watt Ave., after receiving a report of an assault involving a box cutter.
Investigators said the victim reported that 33-year-old Marvel Tyes, a person known to him, allegedly attempted to cut him with a box cutter following an argument. The victim was not injured during the incident.
When deputies arrived, authorities said Tyes fled into his hotel room and refused repeated commands to surrender. Deputies established a perimeter around the room while attempting to negotiate with him.
During the incident, deputies learned that Tyes' juvenile daughter was also inside the hotel room. Based on Tyes' criminal history, which included multiple firearms-related charges, the Sheriff's Office requested assistance from its Special Enforcement Detail (SED), the department's SWAT team.
The juvenile later exited the hotel room safely and without incident.
After SED personnel arrived, Tyes exited the room and was taken into custody without incident at approximately 3:45 a.m.
Tyes was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, obstructing law enforcement, and committing a felony while out on bail. He was out on bail for possession of an assault weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
