NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (PSN) — A vegetation fire broke out Sunday morning in a vacant field behind Faith Baptist Tabernacle in North Highlands, prompting a rapid response from fire crews working to protect nearby church property as parishioners arrived for morning services.

PROVIDED BY FBT CHURCH MEMBER

The fire occurred near Watt Avenue and Q Street, where church members arriving for Sunday services encountered multiple fire engines and emergency apparatus positioned in the church’s rear parking lot as firefighters held the fire line and defended nearby structures.

According to a media release issued by Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, crews were dispatched to reports of a field fire at the location Sunday morning.

Firefighters arrived and quickly surrounded the blaze with hose lines in an effort to contain the fire and prevent extension to adjacent buildings, including the church property.

Additional fire engines were requested to assist with suppression efforts, while law enforcement personnel responded to assist with traffic control in the area.

Crews were able to knock down the main body of the fire and remained on scene working to extinguish lingering hot spots.

Wilbourn noted that, with elevated fire danger conditions and an ongoing red flag weather advisory, fire officials are taking additional precautions by ordering resources early and aggressively mitigating threats before they can spread further.

No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
