Person of Interest in Custody in Sacramento Teen Homicide Investigation

​SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Police investigators have taken a person of interest into custody as they continue investigating the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy earlier this week.

According to an updated Sacramento Police Department media release issued Tuesday evening, officers initially responded just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, June 14, to reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers provided emergency medical aid until fire personnel arrived, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

As detectives continued their investigation, they determined the shooting actually occurred shortly before 12:15 a.m. in the 3500 block of Taylor Street. The victim was later located in the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue.

Investigators processed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Police announced Tuesday that a person of interest has been taken into custody. Additional information regarding the individual or potential charges has not been released.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim after next-of-kin notifications have been completed.
