SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (PSN)— Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a homicide after a man was found fatally wounded inside the lobby of a South Sacramento motel early Tuesday morning.
According to Sgt. Edward Igoe of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:30 a.m. to the Motel 6 located in the 7400 block of Elsie Avenue after a caller reported that someone had been shot inside the lobby.
When deputies arrived, they located a 21-year-old man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures and requested assistance from fire personnel. Despite those efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect had already fled before deputies arrived.
Sheriff's Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the motel and remained on scene Tuesday morning collecting evidence and conducting interviews as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not released information regarding a possible suspect or motive.

The identity of the victim is expected to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office following notification of next of kin.
