ARDEN, Calif. (PSN)— A quick-thinking neighbor and a rapid response from firefighters helped prevent a garage fire from spreading into a duplex Sunday afternoon in the Arden area.

According to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, crews were dispatched to the 2800 block of Aurora Avenue for reports of a residential structure fire.

Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage of a duplex. Crews immediately deployed hose lines while conducting a primary search to ensure everyone had safely evacuated the residence.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain the blaze to the garage, preventing the fire from extending into the home's living areas. While the interior sustained smoke damage, firefighters were able to significantly limit the overall damage to the structure.

Officials said a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the garage and quickly alerted the occupants that their home was on fire. That early warning allowed everyone inside to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire officials are reminding residents to regularly test smoke alarms, replace batteries as recommended by the manufacturer, and replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older. Officials say early notification and quick action can make the difference between a close call and a tragedy.
