ARDEN, Calif. (PSN)— Firefighters contained a multi-unit condominium fire Tuesday afternoon in Arden that damaged four residences and prompted a large multi-agency response. One dog was rescued during search operations, while two cats remain unaccounted for.
At approximately 3:08 p.m. Tuesday, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District was dispatched to the 535 block of Woodside Oaks for a reported commercial structure fire. Initial dispatch information showed a significant response from Sacramento Metro Fire and the Sacramento Fire Department to the condominium complex.
According to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Capt. Mark Nunez, firefighters arrived to find a condominium complex with multiple units actively involved in fire. Crews immediately deployed multiple hose lines while conducting simultaneous primary searches to ensure no occupants remained inside the affected residences.
The resident of the unit where the fire originated told investigators he smelled smoke and went to investigate, discovering flames burning on his balcony that were rapidly extending into the interior of the condominium. He safely evacuated and called 911.
During search operations, firefighters rescued one dog from the affected condominium. Two cats remain unaccounted for.
The fire impacted a total of four condominium units. Two units sustained significant fire damage, while two additional units suffered smoke and water damage.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District's Fire Investigation Team.
The fire district reminds residents that working smoke alarms save lives. Officials encourage the public to test smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries as recommended, and immediately evacuate and call 911 from a safe location if an alarm sounds.
