Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision Leaves 10-Year-Old Girl Dead in South Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A 10-year-old girl was killed and her father was seriously injured Thursday evening after a vehicle struck the mini bike they were riding in South Sacramento and fled the scene, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The collision occurred just before 8 p.m. near 36th Street and 19th Avenue.

According to Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Officer Allison Smith, officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle or dirt bike. Responding officers located an adult male and a juvenile female at the scene.

The young girl was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The adult male suffered serious injuries. The suspect vehicle had fled before officers arrived.

In an update issued shortly after 9 p.m., police announced the girl had succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The man, identified by family members at the scene as the girl's father, sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Due to the fatal nature of the collision, detectives from the Sacramento Police Department's Major Collision Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigators responded to assume the investigation.

Authorities are actively searching for the driver involved and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information related to the incident to contact the Sacramento Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing.
