1 min read

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Capitol Protection Section of the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to the L Street driveway of the State Capitol building. Dispatchers were watching video surveillance cameras and noticed a white pickup truck attempting to drive through the driveway gate arm.

When officers arrived, they found the pickup truck parked in the driveway, with the gate arm partially closed, but on top of the truck’s hood. Officers contacted and detained the adult male driver. Upon further observation, officers suspected the driver may have been driving under the influence. Field sobriety testing was conducted, after which the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI. The driver was then transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail.

It’s currently unknown if any damage was sustained to the driveway gate arm.
