SHERIFF: HOMICIDE IN NORTH HIGHLANDS – SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

At 2:03 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2019, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office received reports of an unresponsive male with visible injuries in the 5300 block of Jackson Street in North Highlands.

Deputies responded and performed CPR on the victim until the Fire Department arrived. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Austin Sweet.

Homicide detectives responded and conducted an investigation into the circumstances of Sweet’s death. Detectives determined Sweet was involved in an altercation with his roommate, 21-year-old Grant Sherman when he was killed. Sherman was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges related to this incident.

There are no outstanding suspects in this case and no motive is known at this time.
