Suspects linked to a deliberately set vehicle fire located in an apartment complex parking lot in the Dixieanne / Old North Sacramento Neighborhood

Charge: 451-D, Arson of Property (2-counts)

On 05/02/2019 at 0335 hours, the Sacramento Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in an apartment complex parking lot located on the 1000 block of Dixieanne Ave. The fire caused damage to two vehicles resulting in an approximate $20,000 fire loss. Sacramento Fire Department Arson/Fire Investigators were dispatched to the scene due to suspicious circumstances and conducted a fire investigation. The investigators concluded the fire was deliberately set with the use of an accelerant and other combustible material located at the scene. The event was captured on video by the apartment complex video surveillance system.

Investigators initiated a criminal investigation and were able to identify and link three adult male suspects to the crime via video surveillance footage, phone records and surveillance operations. On 06/17/19, investigators obtained arrest warrants for Matthew Bryant (Age 51), Garland Waldon (Age 53) and Jessie Collins (Age 53). The Sacramento Police Department’s Digital Forensics Unit, Post Release Community Supervision Unit, Career Criminal Apprehension Team assisted arson investigators with their criminal investigation.

Collins was apprehended was by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department on 06/18/19. Waldon was apprehended by the Sacramento Police Department on 06/25/19. Bryant was apprehended by the Elk Grove Police Department on 07/07/19.
