SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN)— A pedestrian remains hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by two vehicles Friday night in South Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Just after 9 p.m., officers responded to the 4500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officer Anthony Gamble, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson, said the pedestrian was initially struck by a vehicle that fled the scene before officers arrived.

The pedestrian was then struck by a second vehicle. That driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, Gamble said.

The pedestrian, identified only as a male, was transported to an area hospital, where he remained in critical condition Saturday.

Police did not immediately release a description of the vehicle or driver sought in connection with the initial collision.

The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Public Safety News will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
