SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN)— A juvenile suspect was arrested late Thursday night after fleeing from officers in a stolen vehicle investigation that led to a perimeter, air support and a coordinated K-9 search in south Sacramento.
According to direct observations by PSN, officers received a POD alert indicating a stolen vehicle was in the area of northbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Fruitridge Road shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday.
The stolen vehicle was located on 25th Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the solo occupant bailed out and fled on foot.
The suspect ran northbound along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard before jumping into a residential backyard and beginning to climb multiple fences in an attempt to evade capture.
Officers quickly established a tight containment perimeter while air support responded overhead. The aircraft rapidly acquired the suspect using infrared technology, allowing officers on the ground to continually track the suspect's movements.
Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's Office K-9 teams responded to assist. After multiple K-9 announcements were broadcast into the neighborhood, officers moved in and safely detained the suspect.
The suspect suffered a minor hand injury during the incident but was not bitten by a police dog. Sacramento Fire Department personnel treated the injury at the scene before the suspect was transported and booked into Juvenile Hall.
In a media release issued Friday morning, Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble confirmed that officers located an occupied stolen vehicle near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Fruitridge Road just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The driver fled on foot, a perimeter was established and the suspect was ultimately taken into custody and booked into Juvenile Hall on related charges.
No officers were reported injured during the incident.
