SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A shooting reported early Wednesday near A Street and Ahern Street has been confirmed as a homicide, according to a media release from the Sacramento Police Department.
Officers responded to the area shortly after 1:15 a.m. following reports of gunfire, police said. Responding officers located one victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded and assumed control of the investigation. Detectives are processing the scene, canvassing the surrounding area and interviewing potential witnesses. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
No suspect information has been released.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
