FAIR OAKS, Calif. (PSN)— Firefighters with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a residential structure fire Wednesday afternoon that damaged a home and prompted the rescue of two dogs, authorities said.
Crews were dispatched at approximately 1:40 p.m. to the 7600 block of Ward Avenue in the Fair Oaks community. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a well-involved garage fire that had extended into the home’s living area and attic, according to Capt. Mark Nunez.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack while conducting a primary search to ensure no occupants were inside. Officials said no one was home at the time of the fire.
During the search, crews located two dogs inside the residence and safely removed them. One of the animals required supplemental oxygen at the scene. Both dogs are expected to be OK.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent further damage to the structure.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Metro Fire’s investigation team.
Authorities reminded residents to evacuate immediately and call 911 from a safe location if a fire occurs in their home.
