SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — A late-night police stop turned into a pursuit and crash early Friday when a bicyclist ran a red light and collided with a vehicle in South Sacramento, authorities said.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, just after 12:30 a.m. on August 28, officers attempted to stop a man riding a bicycle near 24th Street and Fruitridge Road for a traffic violation. The rider refused to stop and pedaled into the intersection against a red light, where he struck a vehicle.
Police said the suspect immediately fled the scene on foot but was detained a short distance away. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the suspect was on active parole, had multiple outstanding warrants, and was in possession of narcotics at the time of the incident. After receiving medical clearance, he was booked into jail on related charges.
