PRESS RELEASE
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department

On September 11, 2018, at 9:33 P.M. the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a child being shot in the 7400 block of Della Circle in south Sacramento County. The child was later identified as 3-year-old Azalya Anderson.

Azalya underwent extensive treatment but despite the life-saving efforts of medical professionals, she succumbed to her injuries on September 15, 2018. The Sheriff’s Department committed countless resources and entire investigative bureaus to find who was responsible for this senseless act of violence, which took the life of a three-year-old child.

Since the shooting Sheriff’s Department investigators have remained persistent in the development of information to find those responsible, leaving no stone unturned. Homicide detectives faced a daunting task due to a lack of cooperation by the victim’s family members.

On December 13, 2018, the persistence of Sheriff’s Department investigators paid off as they arrested three people suspected of being involved in this despicable act of violence upon our community, which took this young child’s life.

After three months of investigation, Christopher Richie-Bibbs (25) and Reginald Nash (18) were arrested for shooting into an occupied dwelling at the Della Circle address which caused the death of the three-year-old child. Detectives also arrested Marquess Wilson (24) for being an accessory after the fact. All three face an additional allegation that the crime was gang-related.

Christopher Richie-Bibbs and Reginald Nash are currently in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail and are being held on $1,000,000.00 bail. Marquess Wilson has been released on bail.

The Sheriff’s Department remains steadfast in our unbending commitment to keeping our neighborhoods and communities safe while providing Service with Concern.
