On December 15, 2019, at approximately 0257 hours, South Sacramento Area units were dispatched to a traffic collision on Fruitridge Road at Nona Way. It was advised by citizens at the scene that this was a vehicle versus pedestrian collision with a female adult laying in the middle of the street.
At 0305 hours, a South Sacramento unit arrived on scene and began CPR on the pedestrian laying in the middle of the roadway.
The driver, a 24 year old female from Sacramento, advised officers that she was driving a Ford Windstar westbound in the #1 lane of Fruitridge Road and was heading towards SR-99. She decided to move into the #2 lane and then felt an impact with her vehicle. She turned her vehicle around and parked on Nona Way at Fruitridge Road and called 911.
The driver of the Ford stayed on scene until emergency personnel arrived and was later released.
The pedestrian, a 41 year old female from Sacramento, was crossing Fruitridge Road outside of a marked crosswalk when struck by the Ford and was later pronounced deceased at the scene by personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department. The identity of the deceased will be handled by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after next of kin is notified.
