SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) — Four people were injured in a shooting Saturday evening at Howe Park following a large gathering that authorities say may have been connected to UC Davis Picnic Day, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were first called to the park around 6:30 p.m. after receiving reports of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. A second caller reported a potential fight with people running from the area. Air support responded but did not locate any active disturbance at that time.
Authorities determined that several hundred people had gathered at the park. Park officials advised the gathering was unauthorized and requested law enforcement assistance to clear the area. Deputies responded by surrounding the park, activating emergency lights and sirens, and issuing public address announcements directing people to leave over a period of about 15 minutes.
During those announcements, deputies reported hearing between 20 and 25 gunshots. The crowd began fleeing the park as deputies moved in to secure the scene.
Deputies located four victims suffering from injuries. All were transported to area hospitals and are expected to survive. The injured include a 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman. Three victims sustained gunshot wounds, while a fourth suffered what authorities described as a grazing wound.
Investigators later identified a vehicle of interest in Fairfield, where deputies with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office detained three occupants — two females and one male. Detectives with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office interviewed the individuals and conducted a search of the vehicle, locating a firearm.
Authorities said the level of involvement of those detained remains under investigation.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the shooting as of Sunday. The investigation remains active, with crime scene investigators and detectives continuing to process evidence and follow leads.
