SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PSN) – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his infant child after the baby was brought to a local hospital with injuries on Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the Sacramento Police Department.

The tragic incident unfolded just before 10:00 a.m. on October 8, 2024, when officers responded to a hospital in the 2300 block of Stockton Boulevard. Police were called after the infant's mother arrived at the emergency room with her injured baby. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the child was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

During the course of their investigation, officers identified the child’s father, Miguel Jimenez of Sacramento, as a suspect. Jimenez, 22, was detained at the hospital.

"Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to take over the investigation," the department stated. Investigators processed the scene, canvassed the area, and interviewed witnesses to gather further information.

By the evening, Jimenez had been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on homicide-related charges, though the exact cause of death and other details remain under investigation. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the infant after notifying next of kin.

The Sacramento Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding this investigation to come forward. "We encourage any witnesses with information to contact the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
