41-year-old Marc Austin in Custody

On Thursday, May 9, 2019, at approximately 9:22 p.m., officers from the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 1200 block of C Street regarding a subject in a red pickup truck who had threatened to kill multiple people in the area.

Patrol officers arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the male subject who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the pickup. The subject locked the doors and rolled up the windows. He also refused to talk with the officers. Then, the subject drove away in the pickup.

A patrol officer who was driving a marked police vehicle responded to assist with this incident. This responding officer observed the red pickup leaving the area. This was during darkness and the headlights of the pickup were not on. The subject drove against oncoming traffic and directly at this marked police vehicle. The officer activated the emergency police lights of the police vehicle. The driver of the pickup struck the front of the police vehicle and caused minor damage.

After colliding into the police vehicle, the subject placed the pickup in reverse and fled from the responding officers. At that point, a vehicle pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, officers utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) to immobilize the pickup. The vehicle pursuit concluded in the area of 19th Street / D Street. The driver stayed inside the pickup. Officers gave the subject multiple commands and attempted to get him to exit. The subject refused to cooperate.

At approximately 11:17 p.m., after attempting to gain compliance from the subject, officers utilized less lethal weapons and took the subject into custody.

The subject was identified as 41-year-old Marc Austin (see attached photo). After being treated at a local area hospital for minor injuries related to this incident, he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, threats to commit a crime, felony evading and resisting arrest.
